Our Fallen World

“For the creation was subjected to futility… because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”
Romans 8:20-22

Our fallen world: how sad it lies, corrupt
and dying, yet so beautiful. The touch
of greatness is still on it: splendor cupped
within our hands, within the rocks, this much
and more to speak Divinity, the deep
down memory of Immortality
that once brooded over the surface; steep
slopes up to dazzling gasps, and every tree
stretches fingers to God until it bows
and dies. It groans beneath death’s hard decree—
deep gasps for birth, in hope of Him who’ll rouse
from death His saints— to life, and liberty!
Then too creation, splendidly remade,
shall, like its shining Savior, never fade.
